July 12, 1896, Revere Beach Opens

      ...in 1896, 45,000 people gathered in Revere to celebrate the opening of the first public beach in the nation. In 1895 the newly-created Metropolitan Parks Commission had taken ownership of the longest natural beach in the Boston area. The MPC cleared it of a railway, shanties, and other eyesores and built a broad boulevard, an elegant public bathhouse, shade pavilions, and a bandstand. The new and improved beach was an immediate hit. On some hot summer days, it had more than 250,000 visitors, most of them drawn from Boston's working class and immigrant communities. Among the beach's attractions were some of the first amusement parks in the country. The Cyclone, built in 1927, was the fastest and largest roller coaster in the world.

It’s that time of year again
We’re nearing the 4th of July
Nothing quite as pretty
As sparks against the sky

And that is what it means
Freedom it represents for us
A day to set aside
And to make a lot of fuss

We honor our independence
It’s what we have always fought for
And even though it’s never easy
To keep the enemies from our door

So picnics and bar-b-q’s are planned
To celebrate this special day
But stop a moment and remember
The meaning of the brilliant displays!

To the Family of Frank Vetree by Sal Carmosino!

To the family of Frank Vetree.

I have called our church that has a prayer line of many parishoners that pray for people daily, and have requested that Frank's name be put on the list.

During this very critical time of decision about the future of Frank's medical situation, the many prayers of people give forth positive vibes which have helped many people in the past.

Pray God stay with Frank, our classmate and my own softball teammate, that the doctors will find a way to relieve him of this life threatening situation.  Please hear the prayers of our many RHS classmates on the Lantern that will hopefully serve as positive vibes in Frank's behalf, no matter what their religion.

To Frank's family, please believe we are all with you in the hope of a near miracle to restore Frank to better health.

ROSIE,

 

I HAD MY APPOINTMENT WITH DR CLARK AND I NEED TO GET A CAT SCAN NEXT MONTH AND THEN I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH TWO OF MY DOCTORS.

 

IT IS DEFINITELY NOT MY THYROID AND SO WE HAVE TO TRY SOMETHING ELSE. I CAN NOT GET ANY LOWER THAN 105 POUNDS OR ELSE I WILL HAVE TO GO INTO MGH FOR TESTS.

 

I AM INCREASING MY EATING HABITS SO THAT I AM EATING MORE THEN 3 MEALS A DAY TO HELP ME PUT ON THE WEIGHT. I KNOW THAT I CAN DO IT ON MY OWN.

 

I AM ALSO PRAYING HARD FOR FRANK TO GET WELL AND I KNOW THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE DOING THE SAME FOR HIM.

Rose, 

Check today's message from Donna Masucci about Frank's prognosis.  This is where he stands today. 

Hopefully they will find another way to cure him. The info from Donna, you can put in the Lantern.

Sal, at this time he is has just completed a 5 day round of chemo and the end of the month they will do scans and reassess his progress with this treatment. 

Although Kathy spoke with the doctor the other day and because Frank is not showing improvement they are not sure if this chemo is working. So not sure what the next step will be. 

He has had surgery and radiation but I do not think they are considering surgery again. I wish I had more info but at this time it is taking it just one day at a time. 

All the prayers for Frank and his family will be most appreciative I am sure. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers. Love Donna

LU LU (LOUISE MC GURIN)  IS NOT DOING WELL AT ALL.  I AM PRAYING FOR HER ALOT NOW.  I DO NOT HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR LULU SARRO.  SORRY, I ONLY HAVE HOUSE ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER.

I HAVE LOST TWO MORE POUNDS.  I AM NOW LOOKING SICKLY THIN. I AM DOWN TO A SIZE 2-4 AND ONLY 106 POUNDS. 

I NEED TO GAIN AT LEAST 3 TO 4 POUNDS BEFORE I SEE MY DOCTOR AGAIN OR ELSE HE IS GOING TO TRY TO GET ME INTO THE HOSPITAL.  I AM EATING LIKE NO TOMORROW. 

I WILL WEIGH MYSELF BEFORE I GO TO SEE HIM. I AM SURE THAT I CAN DO IT ON MY OWN. I AM EVEN EATING LATE AT NIGHT TO HELP ME GAIN WEIGHT AND I AM EATING OFTEN, RATHER THEN JUST 3 MEALS A DAY.
