Forwarding for Arthur Buonopane!

Rose:

Here's one you have to post on the Lantern. It should bring a tear or two to our classmates eyes.

Arthur

It's amazing how an act of compassion can come back to us. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/embed/WxjZB5S_g7s?rel=0

Forwarding email from Paula Taylor!

HI ROSE,

I HAD MY SURGERY THIS MORNING AND THE TUMOR WAS BENIGN.  IT WAS LARGER THEN THE LAST ONE AND SO I AM HURTING A LITTLE MORE THEN THE LAST TIME.

I FEEL LIKE I HAD BOTOX DONE TO MY LIPS. THEY ARE SWOLLEN AND CUT. MY NOSE KEEPS RUNNING AND IT IS SO SORE.

THEY GAVE ME LIQUID TO TAKE TO NUMB MY THROAT SO THAT I CAN SWALLOW FOOD WITHOUT A LOT OF PAIN. IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE STREP THROAT.

I WILL RELAX THIS WEEKEND SO THAT I CAN GET BACK TO WORK ON MONDAY. I JUST WON'T BE ABLE TO YELL AT THE KIDS IN THE HALLS OF RHS. THEY ALL KNOW I WILL BE HURTING. I TAPED MY VOICE SO
I CAN PLAY IT WHEN I SEE THEM. I THINK THEY WILL GET A KICK OF IT.

THANKS TO ALL MY FRIENDS FOR THEIR PRAYERS. I KNOW THAT GOD IS WATCHING OVER ME AND SO I NEVER WORRY ABOUT THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE.

PAULA

Happy Hanukkah to all of our Jewish Friends!

For the first time since 1888, the first day of Hanukkah and Thanksgiving will overlap. Experts say that might not happen again until 2070!

Thanksgiving Feasting

Thanksgiving Feasting

When the Halloween pumpkins are gone,
And the leaves have all fallen to ground,
When the air has turned windy and cold,
Then Thanksgiving will soon be around.

Thoughts of loved ones all feasting together,
Pleasant pictures from past times appear
To dwell in each heart and each mind--
Then Thanksgiving is finally here!

The kitchen has scrumptious aromas,
The dining room looks oh, so fine,
Decorations with pilgrims and turkeys,
And now we are ready to dine!

First the napkins are placed on our laps;
Now the prayer for the meal to be blessed,
Then we stuff the good food in our tummies,
And we hope for it all to digest!

Great Shares from Me!

I received an email from Paula Taylor and it is so worthy of sharing with all of you that adore her as much as I do.

HI ROSIE,

I HAVE BEEN SUPER BUSY WITH WORKING 10 HOURS A DAY AT RHS.  I HAVE BEEN HEMMING PANTS FOR THE ROTC TEAM AT RHS. THEY HAVE NEW UNIFORMS AND MOST OF THE PANTS ARE TOO LONG FOR THE KIDS.

I AM ALSO TEACHING THE FASHION CLUB HOW TO CROCHET. THEY WANT TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE THINGS THAT THEY CAN SELL TO HELP PAY FOR SEWING MACHINES ETC FOR THE CLUB.

I AM ALSO CROCHETING AND SELLING THE SASHAY RUFFLE SCARFS.  I MADE ONE AT SCHOOL AND EVERYONE ASKED ME TO MAKE ONE OR  MORE FOR THEM.

I AM STILL HAVING DIFFICULTY SWALLOWING. I AM NOT EATING MEAT BECAUSE CAUSES ME TO CHOKE. I AM EATING SOFT FOODS AND FOODS THAT I CAN PUT A SAUCE OR GRAVY ON.

I GO TO MGH NEXT WEDNESDAY FOR MY PRE OP BLOODWORK AND CHECK-UP AND THEN THEY WILL SCHEDULE ME FOR SURGERY TO REMOVE AND BIOPSY THE LUMP IN MY NECK.

I AM NOT WORRIED BECAUSE THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD TO HAVE A LUMP REMOVED IN MY NECK. I AM SURE I WILL BE FINE. YOU SEE GOD DOESN'T WANT ME RIGHT NOW AND THE DEVIL IS AFRAID OF ME, SO I WILL BE HERE FOR AWHILE.

PAULA

Our Lantern Luncheon by Sal Carmosino!

Thursday September 12, 2013, another mini reunion luncheon was held at Volare's Restaurant to welcome Lantern editor and classmate, Rose Sisti visiting from her home in Florida.

Volare's is the original Dublin Cafe located on the corner of Park Ave and Broadway.  Even though the name has changed it still resembled the old Dublin Cafe.

The food served was appetizers of fried calamari and onion rings, platters of coldcuts a variety of various pizzas. Soft drinks were on the tables as well as Italian cookies afterward.

For many of us who do not have the opportunity to visit Revere that often, the stores along Broadway look nothing like we remember when growing up in the city.  The only things that have not changed were the Fire Station, the Post office and City Hall.

However, it didn't matter, as we could have had this gathering in a tent in a remote field, since the most important thing was seeing our classmates again rather than the location.

The classmates in attendance were as follows:

Rose Franciosa Sisti
Barbara Cohen Waldman
Peter  Zaccone
Diane Whiles [ Peter's Fiancée]
Ethyl Kaplan Harris
Roxanne Fisher Aiello
Joe Greenberg
Lena Stuppia Stasio
Linda Spagnolo Lattanzi
Priscilla Freda Melchionno
John Henry
Roger Keith
Robert Scott
Patty Pierce Sullivan
Joanne Nardone
Joanne Strazzulla McCarthy
Kathy Crane DeLena
Meri Mastronardi Yanacopolus
Diane Screnci Beatrice
Elaine Schultz
Sal Carmosino

Conversations included life in retirement, for those who are retired, vacations spots in Florida, grandchildren, past job experiences and most of all, health issues especially at our tender ages.

There were a total of 21 people at the luncheon. Some came from Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and several from the far reaches of Massachusetts.

Kudos to Robert Scott [Scotty] who with his many health issues, drove from Maine to be with us this day. As we all expected , Scotty had another new car with even more gadgets included.  We were wondering if Scotty had a side business in the car dealership with his constant array of new cars.....annually !

Peter Zaccone is now a snowbird as he will escape to his condo in Florida during the winter.  The love of his life, Diane joined us on this day at the luncheon.

John Henry, our class president [yes John...this job is for life!] still runs the city as part time City Clerk.  At our age, this has to be a labor of love.

Joe Greenberg looked well and rested in retirement which he seems to be enjoying. Our prayers and thoughts are with Joe and his family for his wife's recovery from surgery.

The latest news is that our old McKinley School will not be torn down. Instead the city will move administrative offices into the building.  A new Mckinley School will be built on the present Hill Park area.   A recreation park will be built at the St Mary's area on Washington Avenue.  It will be sad to see the old school go, but at least the building will still be there and used.

In any event, it was evident that our classmates still enjoy being with each other as evidenced by the good turnout. As usual, the day and hours flew by and was over before we knew it.  At any kind of reunion, it is nearly impossible to converse with everyone since there is not enough time to do so. Therefore, it was difficult to include stories about everyone.

Our thanks to Diane Beatrice for organizing yet another gathering which we all enjoy and brings us back to our roots in Revere.  Also thanks to everyone who came to make this luncheon another success.

Great Shares from Linda Kane Donahue

Hi Rose,

So sorry about your fall. I certainly know all about those falls. I had fallen down Salem State Library stairs 6 yrs. ago, and that yr. I kept falling everywhere. It turned out that my already degenerative arthritic back became Spinal Stenosis!

They wanted to operate immediately, but I would have no part of it! Instead I went to aquatic therapy which helped tremendously! I went on Rt. 1 rt. next to Timothy's (Formerly Village Green, where I always used to go dancing). No more dancing for me, but try it, there great!

It's called Elite Physical Therapy and tell them I sent you! Hope your feeling better take care, & keep up the good work, your artistic qualities are fantastic, or whoever is doing them!
