Someone found The Lanteron online! See who!

Hi Rose,

Just found The Lantern Blog a few days ago and really enjoy catching up on the last 50 years. I pretty much lost contact with everyone back East since I moved to Arizona 25 yrs. ago.

I live in Cave Creek, Az. on my small "gentelman's ranch" and have been retired for six years now. I will not be able to make it to the reunion in Aug. but do wish the best to all my classmates.

Keep up the excellent work on The Lantern.

Dick Clark died at age 82. So sad!

Dick Clark, the television host who helped bring rock `n’ roll into the mainstream on “American Bandstand,” has died. He was 82.

I'm so sad..........oh the memories of watching American Bandstand at Janice Scandone's house after school with her mother dancing along with us too!

Clark had continued performing even after he suffered a stroke in 2004 that affected his ability to speak and walk.

He was called “the world’s oldest teenager” because of his boyish appearance, Clark also was a successful businessman. He hosted an annual New Year’s Eve special and supplied a variety of game shows and music specials to TV, including and the American Music Awards.

The original “American Bandstand” was one of network TV’s longest-running series as part of ABC’s daytime lineup from 1957 to 1987. Over the years, it introduced stars ranging from Buddy Holly to Michael Jackson to Madonna.

Dick Clark was a big part of our era and gave us all fond memories.

"Comments"

I noticed that I have not been receiving any "Comments" under all the Posts lately, so I thought that I would remove the section where you would have to show "word verification" for comments was preventing many of you to bother taking the time.  I know extra steps can be annoying but it was for security purposes.  I unchecked the box with anticipation the gang will start some interaction once again!

The Lantern is meant for us to participate so let's share some thoughts, leave some comments or send me some stories to share.

Did you know?

According to "Mass Moments" article

On this day,
.......in 1642, Massachusetts Bay Colony passed the first law in the New World requiring that children be taught to read and write. The English Puritans who founded Massachusetts believed that the well-being of individuals, along with the success of the colony, depended on a people literate enough to read both the Bible and the laws of the land. Concerned that parents were ignoring the first law, in 1647 Massachusetts passed another one requiring that all towns establish and maintain public schools. It would be many years before these schools were open to all children. Only in the mid-nineteenth century was universal free public schooling guaranteed – in time, made compulsory — for Massachusetts children.

The first was the Boston Latin School opened in 1635, the nation's oldest publicly funded school. Unlike most schools in England, Boston Latin was not established by a church; it was created by the Boston Town Meeting. Voters agreed to use rents collected for Deer, Long, and Spectacle Islands in Boston Harbor to support the school and pay a schoolmaster.

Great Shares from Jeanine Erricolo White!

Hi Rose,

Per your request, I took pictures of the quilts I made for my granddaughters.  I couldn't believe I hadn't after all the work I put in to them.

Years ago, I made one for my daughter, Jeanine-Marie that was the story of her life.  Each block told of some part of her life from her early years,  her pets,  her activities, her schools and any landmarks she accomplished.  It came out beautiful.

I also made one for my mother's 92nd birthday that took highlights of her life and made quilt blocks for them.  It is a very long and tedious project but it was so worth it.

I will be in touch.  Jeanine

I had lunch with Jeanine (Erricolo) White yesterday!

Jeanine is here in Boca Raton visiting her children and it was such a pleasure to have the opportunity to see her when she comes to Florida.  She is so talented.  She showed me two beautiful quilts that she made for her two granddaughters.  Amazing!

We had a lot to catch up on.  Gosh, we have known each other since McKinley School!

Jeanine said she will be attending the Lantern Luncheon in May so I get to see her again!
