Our Lantern Luncheon by Sal Carmosino!

Thursday September 12, 2013, another mini reunion luncheon was held at Volare's Restaurant to welcome Lantern editor and classmate, Rose Sisti visiting from her home in Florida.

Volare's is the original Dublin Cafe located on the corner of Park Ave and Broadway.  Even though the name has changed it still resembled the old Dublin Cafe.

The food served was appetizers of fried calamari and onion rings, platters of coldcuts a variety of various pizzas. Soft drinks were on the tables as well as Italian cookies afterward.

For many of us who do not have the opportunity to visit Revere that often, the stores along Broadway look nothing like we remember when growing up in the city.  The only things that have not changed were the Fire Station, the Post office and City Hall.

However, it didn't matter, as we could have had this gathering in a tent in a remote field, since the most important thing was seeing our classmates again rather than the location.

The classmates in attendance were as follows:

Rose Franciosa Sisti
Barbara Cohen Waldman
Peter  Zaccone
Diane Whiles [ Peter's Fiancée]
Ethyl Kaplan Harris
Roxanne Fisher Aiello
Joe Greenberg
Lena Stuppia Stasio
Linda Spagnolo Lattanzi
Priscilla Freda Melchionno
John Henry
Roger Keith
Robert Scott
Patty Pierce Sullivan
Joanne Nardone
Joanne Strazzulla McCarthy
Kathy Crane DeLena
Meri Mastronardi Yanacopolus
Diane Screnci Beatrice
Elaine Schultz
Sal Carmosino

Conversations included life in retirement, for those who are retired, vacations spots in Florida, grandchildren, past job experiences and most of all, health issues especially at our tender ages.

There were a total of 21 people at the luncheon. Some came from Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and several from the far reaches of Massachusetts.

Kudos to Robert Scott [Scotty] who with his many health issues, drove from Maine to be with us this day. As we all expected , Scotty had another new car with even more gadgets included.  We were wondering if Scotty had a side business in the car dealership with his constant array of new cars.....annually !

Peter Zaccone is now a snowbird as he will escape to his condo in Florida during the winter.  The love of his life, Diane joined us on this day at the luncheon.

John Henry, our class president [yes John...this job is for life!] still runs the city as part time City Clerk.  At our age, this has to be a labor of love.

Joe Greenberg looked well and rested in retirement which he seems to be enjoying. Our prayers and thoughts are with Joe and his family for his wife's recovery from surgery.

The latest news is that our old McKinley School will not be torn down. Instead the city will move administrative offices into the building.  A new Mckinley School will be built on the present Hill Park area.   A recreation park will be built at the St Mary's area on Washington Avenue.  It will be sad to see the old school go, but at least the building will still be there and used.

In any event, it was evident that our classmates still enjoy being with each other as evidenced by the good turnout. As usual, the day and hours flew by and was over before we knew it.  At any kind of reunion, it is nearly impossible to converse with everyone since there is not enough time to do so. Therefore, it was difficult to include stories about everyone.

Our thanks to Diane Beatrice for organizing yet another gathering which we all enjoy and brings us back to our roots in Revere.  Also thanks to everyone who came to make this luncheon another success.

Great Shares from Joanne Struz!

Just received an email and photo from Joanne Struz and she and her hubby are golfing in Maine and came across a very interesting plaque.

What a lovely plaque that says "Forever Friends"!

Hope to see both of you at our upcoming luncheon.
Hugs, Rose
