Speedy Recovery and Get Well wishes goes to Donna Toothaker Ying!

I received an email from Donna and she told me that she fell in her driveway on ice.  She broke her shoulder and now has a metal ball joint.  She is in constant pain and is on tons of medication.

Her last sentence in her email was:

As Betty Davis said, "Getting Old Ain't for Sissies"!
Should you wish to send get well wishes:

Mass Moments!

paperboy

Today .............in 1872,
a brand-new newspaper hit the streets of Boston. Costing four cents, the Globe had twice the number of pages, as most competitors for the same price. But even at a bargain price, the "semi-literary" paper with reports on Sunday church sermons, art exhibits, and new books attracted few readers.

Within a year, only one of the six original investors remained— Eben Jordan, founder of the Jordan Marsh Department Store. Believing the paper could be a commercial success, he hired Charles H. Taylor to make it into one. With financial backing from Jordan and the ability to respond to changing trends, Taylor turned the paper around. By the 1890s, it had become the dominant paper in New England.

Sad, that all newspapers will no longer be with electronics taking over the schools and being replaced with devices like the Kindle and such.  And, not to mention all the jobs will be lost.  Wow, I guess the libraries will be obsolete as well!  Sad.

I wish they will still teach the children to write their names in cursive.  All these things upset me!  And, I love electronics but they are taking our history away.

To my Forever Valentine Friends!

This Valentine is meant to let you all know

How much you mean to me, my dear

Forever Friends,

but there aren’t words

warm enough, fond enough,

or deep enough to express my feelings.

You are an essential piece of my life’s puzzle.

You enrich my life,

energize me, comfort me.

As the days of our lives go by,

I hope that I can bring to you

joy and news from our classmates

through The Lantern that I have

created  for all of you

(by the request of Diane Screnci & John Henry)

and in turn, you all have brought to me

such joy by participating in The Lantern and

keeping our friendship close.

It is my absolute pleasure to keep us all connected.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Email Carrier: Message from Billy Melchionno!

Rose,

Tough Job you have! Paul Ferris' s obituary read visiting hours will be conducted at the William Carafa & Son Home for funerals, 389 Washington Ave., Chelsea, Massachusetts today January 11th from 6:00 o 8:00 PM.

Rose, while I haven't seen Paul in over 50 years after graduation, he comes out of our old neighborhood on Olive-Page Street.

I remember him vividly as a boy growing up (9-12) along with his older brother in our neighborhood, but never made contact with him in our circle of friends during our high school years. Truly our lost, because our friends speak well of him.

It was a tough week for deaths, as I knew at least 6 people including neighbors of mine like Paul from our past! Please reply!

Billy
