Up for discussion: What is your favorite summer song?

Hmmmm, I am not sure, maybe "If I had a hammer" by Trini Lopez?

Anyway, this is a great interview to listen to.

Enjoy Rich

  1. Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett comes to mind when I think of Summer Songs!

  3. My favorite summer song is "Summertime, Summertime" by the Jammies. It not only reminds me of summer, but of the time we spent growing up at Revere Beach.

  4. The song that reminds me most of
    Summer, is 'The Watusi'...
because every time we went to the beach at night during the Summer, that song was always played at the Cyclone Roller Coaster....my
    all time favorite ride...the King
    of Rides!

  5. I would have to say my favorite song was "Runaway" by Del Shannon with "At the Hop" by Danny and the Juniors not far behind.

  6. I have so many favorites from years gone by, starting with Gene Vincent's "Be-Bop-a-Lula, She's my Baby" because my neighbor across the street on Prospect Ave., Carol Freitas, used to wiggle and sing along with the record in a most unforgettable manner that made me laugh. Also, Bobby Darin (my "boyfriend") who sang "Dream Lover" (I LOVE that song) and, of course, "Mack the Knife" but also "Queen of the Hop". . . I was crazy about him and his music, so much so that I prevailed upon my parents to take me and Janet Campello to see him at Blinstrub's in Boston. . . man, I was in seventh heaven! Oh, there are so many others. . . Dion (DiMucci) singing "Ruby, baby" and other songs; Sam Cooke ("You Send Me"); Elvis ("Don't Be Cruel") and so many more. . . I could go on and on.

  8. Oh my, there are so many to pick from. I will say that when ever I hear Sea of Love I think about Janice Scandone and her cottage in Forge Village ( of course I also think of Tom Cruise in Top Gun LOL)

All of the songs mentioned are fond memories of so many days on the beach. Revere Beach, Nahant, and a little later the Cape. We were all so lucky to have so many places to go to and enjoy and experience. It is funny how just a song can bring it all back. Those memories will always be there to go back to and smile.

  9. My Dear Meri...one song, one song, one song! You gotta pick one song...take a deep breath, count to ten, and pick one song! Please don't be cruel and let us have one song. Merci. RIchanon

  10. I sent a typo...that is a one-hour Arlo Guthrie concert for free, only if you like him, that is. There was some great insight into his childhood with Woody and his circle of friends and well as some very nice soos versions of his songs. Richanon

First of all LOL..... (ok, I had to just say that)

We have been getting a lot about Woodstock back here, has it carried over to you part of the world?

Love this topic, music was just important to us.

  12. Woodstock is getting little play here as it was a US happening mostly. One of the points in my life I regret is that I was not at Woodstock. Instead I was in the mountains of eastern Turkey, listening to some news reports about it and then reading about it later.

    Power to the people! Richanon

  13. Ahhh, Woodstock. My husband and I were on our way to Woodstock, got as far as Vermont and then we heard a weather report. And I will forever regret saying, "Let's not go, the weather is going to be crummy". We turned around and instead went camping in the White Mountains. Woodstock is still a rather taboo subject in our house.

But back to the summer song subject. I loved "It's Summertime, Summertime" by the Jamies. And then there was "V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N" by Connie Stevens and "Who Wears Short Shorts" by the Royal Teens, and Pat Boon'es "Love Letters in the Sand".

I still have my little '45's carrying case and a bunch of '45's in it, including many of the above songs. How many of you still have yours? My all time favorite song was "Party Doll" by Buddy Knox

  14. Ruthie:

When I moved to Florida I left behind all of my 45's and 78's and my old record player. My brother took them to his house when he married and still take them out when they have a bart-b-que. I was able to listen to them when I was at their house last Thanksgiving. It was great hearing them. I wished I had not left them behind. Janice

  15. Unfortunately, I don't have any of my 45s. Wish I saved them. I'm surprised I don't have them as I am sort of a rat pack!

I'm trying to let go of things I don't need or use anymore...downsizing to a condo leaves little space for storage!

  16. ooops sorry about about the mix up Top Gun Danger Zone and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. Wasn't Sea of Love in a Movie. (I guess I just like to think about Tom Cruise)
Ruth, I never made it to Woodstock either.

  17. You just gotta see this brief live and unplugged concert of Tom Jones
singing in an office of the NPR in Washington. Still has a great voice.

  18. Dear Dr. Freud,
I really don't know why I have such a difficult time choosing "one" song, or, indeed, a "favorite"
anything. . . do I need therapy?Anyway, re the songs. . .maybe because I heard them at various stages of adolescence and they appealed to different aspects of my personality or reminded me of someone "special" at that time, or whatever, I really don't know, but, if I absolutely must choose "only one song", dear Doctor, I guess it would have to be "Dream Lover" by Bobby Darin!

  19. One song! By gawd, me thinks she got it. Sorry to say Dr. Freud is not available. But in his behalf, I gotta say, you are on your way to a speedy recovery.
