Great pictures. Great memories. Oh that clock! I understand that no one knows where it is! It is an on-going mystery. I remember it so well. Does anyone else remember that under-the-street tunnel that took one to the bath house? I was never in it, but was amazed that there was such a thing. I remember many of the old timers in the area around the Hippodrome using it and being on the beach in their "rented" navy blue swim trunks! It always amazed me that someone would RENT a swim suit! Of course, speaking of the Hippodrome, conjures up memories of the McKinley School Bowling Club. We would take the bus from Broadway with our bowling team and go bowling. I think that Peter Sarno was our advisor. I also remember some of the boys singing "naughty songs" at the back of the MTA bus and the bus driver stopping the bus and admonishing them and insisting that they immediately stop or get thrown off the bus! ...and they did! It is such fun to remember! Joanne Struz
I remember the bowling club. I was never on it but it was Mr. Sarno who oversaw it. Then he went to the High School. Come to think of it I do remember that clock and I have no idea where it went. I remember the Beachmont bus having that parking space in front of the P.O. it ran on a set schedule from that spot to the station. It had that stop in next to the H.S. and it was there at around 1:45 and waited every afternoon. back then they let the Sr. out at 1:45 to catch that bus if they had a job in Boston....
Peter, there is someone Tic Mor??? what ever his name is on remembering Revere, He has some pictures that are great, One of an old baseball team with Paul Lavagniak Billy Cataldo to name a few, then some old pictures of some of the schools.... can you get into them and post them....?
Maybe we were too young for nickel day in 1938 but do you remember nickel day with a "cott" bottle cap where you could go on the rides for a nickel in the late 50's or early 60's. I believe it was one day a week although I forgot what day it was. And I sure do remember bowling many many "strings" at the bowladrone and then going downstairs to play some miniature golf. Then maybe some Joe and Nemo hot dogs. But on rainy days the "Penny Arcade" was the place for me. Trying to beat those pinball machines. I'm sure for all of us those great memories will never be forgotten. Peter, thanks for bringing back many of those truly happy memories for us.

Oh Joe and Nemo!
ReplyDeleteI'm craving a hot dog and a hamburger which both are no longer on my diet!
How much were they two for a dime?
