Happy Rosh Hashanah to all our Jewish classmates!

Rosh Hashanah is the start of the Jewish New Year, and is celebrated during the month of Tishrei, which falls during September and/or October. This year – 2011– Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset, Wednesday September 28, 2011. It is the Hebrew Year 5772.

Rosh Hashanah is considered the time of redemption, the day of judgment and is considered a solemn festival. On this day, G_d Almighty decides the future fate for each and every Jewish individual for the coming year — a person's fate is judged yearly. On Rosh Hashanah, those of the Jewish faith are inscribed in the Book of Life. On Yom Kippur, which is ten days later, the Book is sealed.

Prayer Request Needed!

I just received this email from Peter Pierce regarding his wife.  I emailed him back requesting his permission to ask for prayers and he replied "yes".

Here is a copy of his email to me:

HAVE NOT FORGOT YOU BEEN VERY BUSY NEVER TOLD YOU MY WIFE GOT SICK


THIS YEAR HAD KIDNEY CANCER HAD ONE KIDNEY OUT SHE IS DOING FINE FROM

THAT BUT LAST WEAK SHE HAD A CHEST XRAY THEY FOUND A SPOT ON HER LUNG

SO THEY HAD HER GET A CATSCAN CANT TELL WHAT IT IS NOW SHE HAS TO GET

A PETSCAN SCAN TOMMOROW. WHATS NEW?

Urgent Prayer Request for George DiPesa!

With a heavy heart, I post this Prayer Request for George DiPesa. 

I just learned this information a few minutes ago.  It is my understanding that he and his wife have been living in Port St. Lucie, Florida. 

I don't know what form of cancer he has but I was told that he just entered Hospice.  I'm so sad.

I will keep you posted as I learn more information.

Let us pray for our dear friend, George.

Hi Rose,

Want to thank all my Lantern friends for the many birthday wishes. I really appreciate them all. I am so enjoying being retired after teaching for 43 years. I found that September can really be a nice non-stressful month when one is no longer in school. My new (and first) grandchild, Liam, is helping me acclimate into this next phase of my life. He just turned 4 months and has realized he has feet. I had forgotten how delightful it is to see babies make all these discoveries. And I am so lucky to have my kids (and grandson) live nearby.

 

Oh, and I promise I won't bore people at our next reunion with thousands of grandbaby pictures.

Also, for those of you that are on Facebook, there are two groups that some of you may not be aware of but be interested in joining. One is "Remember in Revere When....", and the other is "I Grew Up in Beachmont". Great remembrances and photos have been posted on both. Peter has added many fantastic old Revere Beach photos that he also posted on the Lantern.

Life is good, I have the best friends!

How lucky am I to see my Revere friends twice during their vacation in Florida!  This was so special to me and we all had a wonderful time. 

I'm thrilled that Diane and Peter maybe close by neighbors for three months out of the year! 

We had a lovely dinner at Anthony's in Delray Beach and had the pleasure of meeting a realtor friend of Diane's named Pamela.  She is adorable!  I remembered to ask the barmaid to take pictures of us and was lucky to get two good pictures out of four that didn't come out blurry!

Life is good!  I have the best friends and of course they all come from Massachusetts!

We'll Never Forget 9/11

Dinner with Peter Zaccone & his gem of a girlfriend!

Sharing good times with good friends is the greatest joy. This is the stuff that makes life worthwhile. Whether sharing a meal together or a good conversation, there is nothing more fulfilling then spending time with friends.

We had a lovely dinner at Josephine's Restaurant in Boca Raton.  The food was great, the company even better and the laughs, priceless!

I forgot to ask the waiter to take a picture of the three of us together and I had my camera with me all night long.  I remembered when we got back to my house.  I took several pictures and most came out blurry and out of focus.  I did manage to salvage one great one of the special couple!

I'm blessed to have such great friends that come to visit me whenever they are in Florida!
