I know many of you are new to the idea of a Journal/Blog.......heck, I was unaware of it myself until my daughter introduced it to me last year or so.
Prior to me exploring into Journal/Blogs, I guess I always felt it best to stick to my favorite genre of writing, my weekly Newsletters to my family and friends, because of the assumption that no other format will deliver the same satisfaction for me personally. Then I realized, it was less work for my readers not having to download my Newsletters and I could add moving animations instead of just non animated clip arts.
A Blog is a Website, usually maintained by an individual which in this case would be (me) with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.
The important part of a Blog is the ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format. So, don't confuse or compare a Blog with the same features that would be to a magazine subscription! Participation is what a Blog is all about. At the bottom of each entry you will see “Add Your Own”….click on that and leave your comment. You can also view recent comments from others in the same location. Write down your password so you won’t forget it. Better still, let the site save your password for you so you won't have to keep putting it in each time you want to leave a comment.
I hope all of the above makes sense to you now.
So, now with all that said: I will begin again to welcome you all to this entry of The Lantern with some new suggestions that I was thrilled to receive from our classmates that emailed me via my suggestion box provided on the Lantern. I'm excited that more of you are starting to participate. Actually, I received six (6) suggestions and/or requests so I thought I would start with three (3) at a time and see how many of you respond……here goes:
Best/Worst teachers....my worst teacher if one can even call him
ReplyDeletethat, was the football coach, John Furey. I had him in my junior

correctly. Whats more he used let us do our homework while in class
while he was drawing football plays at his desk!
Best teacher....Miss Olga Mafera, altho I didnt think so at the time.
She was tough and took nothing from anyone. She was trying to
makes better students but we didnt realize it then. To this day
we, classmates recite some of her favorite expressions!

there and stroll the length of the beach...going on one ride after
another.....our favorites....the dodgems....the double ferris wheel...
the scrambler...the wild mouse....then the king of all rides...
the Cyclone...reride after reride.......stop at Bianchis for slices
of pizza.....walk further and get roast beef sandwiches at,
where else...Kelleys...........all for less than 10.00!
Favorite foreign countries in this order......Italy....scenery and
food cant be beat...history and art everywhere..
Ireland....again great scenery..wonderful
people...beatiful landscape......Greece.....the islands are
breathtaking.....ancient ruins outstanding...food very spicey
but very good.. friendly people always willing to help
with language and money conversion. England....reeks of
History and flavor....a world unto itself....no language barrier...

Well I guess my best teacher was Ms. Umbras as I loved to type and she pushed me to unbelievable speeds. As far as the worse I guess it would of been Mr. Collins for Math, it seems he had a hangover several times a week.
ReplyDeleteRevere Beach is where I met my first husband and father of my two great children. He was working part time at the Arcade and I was there with my young brother playing skiball. We lost money in the machine and he ended up giving us free games for the whole day, of course, I had to leave him my phone number.
Last year I took a trip to Aruba and fell in love with that island, if I could have my way that would be one place I would like to retire to.
I have many wondereful memories of Revere Beach. Many of them
ReplyDeletewere mentioned previously. The rides, strolling along the beach
Kelly's and the Driftwood.
I have always loved to travel. My favorite was Italy, I spent a month
there with my cousin many years ago and have always wanted to go back.
Spain w as my next favorite country, I loved the people. I feel the same
about Portugal. I loved Monte Carlo and Monaco. I can't say the same for
Tangiers. (not very clean).
I also enjoyed vacationing in many of the Islands, Aruba, Curacao, Puerto
Rico, St. Thomas.
Next week I am leaving for a tour of California. I haven't been there since
I was ten years old (many many years ago). I will be meeting with a tour
in SanDiego and then traveling up the coast for 9 days making many stops
along the way . Then ending with wine country and San Francisco and then
home from there. I am gettiong excited.

She was not my favorite teacher in high school, but in later years
ReplyDeleteI came to understand why she was so tough on us. She wanted us
to excell. It was my Italian teacher Miss Mafera.
Years later I got in touch with her age 91 and saw her ocassionally.
My wife and I took her out to lunch at the Continental on Rte 1.
Then she later went into a nursing home. Joanne Nardone and I
attended her 99th birthday and then she died shortly after on
May 20, 2004.
My first car that I got to drive alone was my fathers 1957 Buick..Super
model. The car was huge and had power to spare. My friends always
wanted me to drag race on the Lynnway to show what power it had.
A dream car....to this day I cannot find a model of it even at
old car shows.
Joe and Nemos....Bianchi s and Bill Ashes pizza...the Virginia Reel,
the Cyclone...the double Ferris Wheel....Kelleys Roast Beef.....
The beach itself at high tide, especially near the clock..with great

The Nautical Bowling Lanes.....the Wild Mouse....The Scrambler and
the Dodgems....the Hippodrome....and the Arcade Bazaar....
If these didnt fill a date night.....you were living on another planet.
My ambition in the yearbook was to be a history teacher. I wasnt successful
in my college career, if one can call it that...2 1/2 years at
Mass. Bay Comm College. I ended up with a career at American Airlines
with a variety of jobs in the reservtion office, first in Boston for 10 years,
then when they moved to Hartford, 27 more years. Finally retired 4 years
ago at 60. However, I did land a part time job at an historical museum
as a guide, teacher and assistant curator. So I do get to teach kids
history after all. I am also a re enactor which has been most of my life
and I enjoy re living historical periods of the American Revolution
and the Civil Wa
