Do you remember Boston Ballroom?

Question MarkI received an email from Dora (DiBartolomeo) Vickery and her memory just amazes me. She asked me if I remembered the Boston Ballroom when some of us Revere High School classmates were on TV.
Dancers

I replied........I do remember because I was on the Boston Ballroom TV but I can't remember who my dancing partner was..........hmmmm!
The subject was renting space in my head and I sent off an email to Meri and she certainly remembered more....here is her response: I love the new Blog. . .and yes, I do remember Boston Ballroom because I went on it and danced with Ronnie Lanza! I also remember what I wore (I had borrowed a blue-and-white herringbone jacket from Janet Campello, my best pal, and thought I looked cool until I saw myself on the camera and realized I just looked schoolgirlish. . .which is what I was) But it was so much fun! I remember Skippy Barone and oh, I just blanked on the other boy's name who was also a great dancer, and what a good time it was. Maybe it was Channel 4, WNAC-TV, perhaps?

Dora's request is to ask the entire class what they remember. So, please leave a comment or email me what you remember and I will post it online for you! I searched all over the web and in UTube trying to find some tidbit about Revere High at Boston Ballroom on TV but no luck. So, what better way than to ask all of you...........

Hey, John Henry........you know everything about Revere High...........would you know where I could get a copy of this TV tape when our class was on. Wouldn't that be a hoot to put that on the Lantern!

P.S. I also need more email addresses of our classmates.....I know I don't have Janet Campello's and many others........so if you see our friends.....and have their email addresses.......please send them to me so they can enjoy The Lantern!

Extra, Extra!

Excerpt from Financial Times Newspaper:

Extra I started with Rich Cummings, former director of security for RFE/RL. He had joined the radio stations’ Munich headquarters just months before Carlos the Jackal, funded by the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, bombed the building, and he recalled the early years of his tenure as deadly serious, with constant worries about infiltration by spies. He also reminded me that the stations themselves were a microcosm of the internal dynamics of the cold war: many of the various nationalities who worked there had almost as much dislike for one another as they did for communism. In one memorable event, two staffers who had been doing some hard drinking in the headquarters canteen let their nationalist passions escalate into a fight in which one man put his cigarette out on the other’s forehead. In retaliation, the branded man bit off his opponent’s finger.

Cummings, who still lives in Germany, continues to delve into the history of the cold war. His book, Cold War Radio, is scheduled for publication next year. I asked him if he thought the US had won it. “I think the objectives that I read from the CIA in the late 1940s and the state department in 1949 to 1950 were reached with the final fall of communism in Russia in 1991. It doesn’t mean we won. It means that [we met] the objectives, and those were simply to give the people [of the eastern bloc] a chance to do what they wanted to do. But, did we win? I don’t think we, meaning America, really won anything.”

Great Shares!

Dora (DiBartolomeo) Vickery:

I spent a pleasant evening going through the older entries. You have quite the journals going. It was real nice to read the comments. I have responded under the comments but I am not too sure exactly how I did it on either the Roses are Read or the Lantern. I will keep at it though, you will probably be hearing from me one of these when I am stuck and have the time to get a phone lesson from you. LOL !

I really am enjoying this more than I ever thought I would.

It was so nice to see Sal in his re-enactment gear. I was on vacation in Williamsburg Va. many years ago when the kids were little and they were have a re-enactment going on there. It was more than just their usual re-enactors, they had them from all over the country to simulate the opening of the general courts, they were even camped on the town commons. The kids loved it. They stayed in character even just walking up and down the streets. You could hear their conversations. It is nice that both he and his wife enjoy it together.

Richard Cummings:

The new page not only looks good but is easy to get around...congratulations on a superb job. Thanks. 10/14/2008

Roxanne (Fisher) Aiello:

Rose,
What a great job. I am going to get some pictures together and send them along to you. Thanks for doing all this work, it is so interesting to read. If you can send me your address, I would like to send you a small check toward the new equipment you had to buy.

Sal Carmosino:

I guess none of us will ever know how much work you have put into this project. We can't say thank you enough......it is truly the lifeline for our class....I'll try to sign into it when I have time to study it.

The graphics are super and shows your talent for finding the right one for each area....something I'm sure not many of us could do or even know how to do. I don't mind leaving comments but I fear if it's the same people all the time, others may feel its only for us...no matter how many times you stress that it is for everyone. Maybe I'm being too sensitive, but I will join in as soon as possible.

Are we past hurricane season in Florida now? I hear there is another one near Aruba somewhere....hope it disappears...

More Great Shares!

Jane (Stanton) Doherty & Mike Doherty:
Hi Rose,

What a wonderful project you have started. Ann (Diamond) Beliveau passed on the address for the lantern photo shop. I enjoyed reading all of the articles. Regarding "It's picture time again" I wanted to respond to the questions of who's who in the Beachmont photo. Shown in the picture from left to right are George Wall, Liz Vass, Richard Cummings, Arthur Maroney, Michael Doherty and Michael Nappa. The picture was taken by my husband's uncle John on Bradstreet Ave. I have been married to Michael Doherty (St Mary's of Lynn "61) for 42 years. We now also live in Southern Florida, on the West Coast. Please pass this on to all your readers.

Joanne (Strazzulla) McCarthy:
Hi Rosie,
It’s so good to see The Lantern up and running again. It is amazing that you are so devoted to this endeavor. I hope that more of our classmates will get on board and participate. A personal thank you from me for all that you have done.

I, too, would like to /make a small contribution to help you defray the cost of the new equipment you purchased to keep The Lantern running. Please send me your home address and I will send off a check!

Also, do you have Dora’s home address or email address. I would love to contact her. I have thought of her often through the years.

Thanks so much.

Just had to share this with you.  It brought back so many memories!  How I miss Johnny Carson.  When I was young, I would always say I wanted to be the 4th Mrs. Carson! LOL

Who doesn't remember Dragnet?

The Lantern Photo Shop

Lantern Photo Shop

I thought it would be a great idea to start a Photo Shop for "The Lantern".

Send your photos to me at rjsisti@aol.com and I can post them to share with our classmates.  Just put Lantern Photo Shop in the subject line so it doesn't get lost and mixed in with other emails.

So, whether you want to show off your children, grandchildren, your pets, your new home, or let us enjoy that last trip you just went on or your new found hobby with your new digital camera.

Let's have fun!  Send me your photos and allow me to create a great album for you to share!

Polaroid Camera Pictures, Images and PhotosSorry folks, that old Polaroid camera will not work!  I'm sure most of you own a new digital camera these days or your children definitely have one for sure.  I'm all excited so let's get started......................my emails are preset for Alerts, so I'm notified immediately when you send me a comment or an email for the Lantern.

Keep in mind, after you have sent me your photos and I have posted them for you.....if you forgot and wish to add more to your album...I can do that also.  So keep on sending!  I can add titles under each photo as well so tell us the name of that adorable child or that wonderful place you went to on vacation.  Remember, send them to rjsisti@aol.com.

Moxi? Forwarding mail from Richard Cummings

Hi.  How are you?  I got one for you and the "gang."

As the baseball season winds down and the Red Sox are looking good, again.

Moxie was my father's favorite drink--I think it came from Worcester.  I remember drinking it as a kid.  Does anyone else remember Moxie?
