We remember those today who served our Country in any capacity. We also take time out for a moment of prayer for our Nation, our President, lawmakers, and all in active duty or reserves, across this land, as well as their families. May we always remember our soldiers in prayer.
November 11th is the Day set aside as a very important holiday to observe Veteran's Day in this country.

ReplyDeleteI recently did a lot of research and finally received (from the Pentagon, no less!) the full accident report of my dad's only sibling. This uncle of mine died 3 months after I was born when his plane was shot down Dec. 24, 1944 over the Battle of the Bulge. He was an Air Force Major and the command pilot of a B17G, better known as a Flying Fortress. By chance, last fall, the Manchester Airport had an airshow of WWII bombers and I was able to actually board and sit in a Flying Fortress just like the one my uncle flew. I had never known my father's brother except through old photos, but I think he would have been pleased, it was a very spiritual moment sitting in that bomber. I am so grateful for those who fought for our freedoms.
ReplyDeleteRuthie,
ReplyDeleteI believe your uncle is entitled to some medal of honor???? And, I believe his family should have it. Did they send you only paperwork?
Hugs, Rose
Rose, thank you so much for the photos! Looks like the same airshow I went to. And yes, that bomber was very small inside, a real tight fit.
ReplyDeleteI did sort of inherit my uncle's medals (I'm the only one left of my father's family), all except for the Purple Heart, which I think my father had at one time but don't know where it went. I was told that you can buy them, and other medals, at Army stores(????)
