Hi Rose.
My book is out in print. The publisher sent me a copy and said that 58 copies were also sent out on back order, in case anyone ordered one. It should also be available on amazon.com now or soon.
Anyway, this is from the preface. (I got in a word about Revere Beach anyway):
I grew up in the Greater Boston area, never dreaming that I would someday be working in Munich, Germany, in charge of security at an American-sponsored radio station. How I reached that position is a story of fate or luck.
I recall watching black-and-white television commercials on small screens, ads asking for dollars for Radio Free Europe, especially the one in which Ronald Reagan asked for support for the Crusade for Freedom. There were posters in the subway cars traveling in and out of Boston, asking for contributions in support of Radio Free Europe, to be sent to Mt. Vernon, New York. It seemed that every time I went to a Red Sox game, I saw those posters looking down on me. I did not understand then what they meant, but I found them fascinating.
I also remember sitting on Revere Beach with my friends, discussing the television ad for Radio Free Europe, an ad featuring the song “On Broadway.”
Take care. Rich

Hi Rich,
ReplyDeleteYou better autograph my copy when and if you ever get back to the states!
Hugs, Rose
I would rather sign 1000 copies for you--then the royalties will pay for my trip. Cheers. Anonymous
ReplyDeleteRich, Congrats. on the book. Reading the introduction reminded me of all the times I too saw those adds and wondered about them , and the Iron Curtain.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dora, for your e-mail. My next book is on the Crusade for Freedom, 1950-1960. I knew nothing about it growing up, but it impacted millions of
ReplyDeleteAmericans. Watch this space for more information on the second book. Take care. Anonymous.
Hi Rich,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that your book on
Radio Free Europe, 'Crusade for
Freedom' is now in print.
Your editors must have wondered
where in the world was
'Revere Beach'.
Best of luck with it and keep us
posted as to how you are doing.
Sal
Congratulations on being published! I just ordered the book on line and am anxiously awaiting its receipt so I can start reading what I'm sure will be a most interesting story.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you!
Meri
Anon says, "I am well and still kicking." Thanks for ordering the book. The chapters are true stories of spies, terrorists, and murder--if you are into that sort of thing you will enjoy the book. Other than the preface, I have removed myself from the stories to give a feeling of objectivity and not a self-serving memoir.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday I will do that. Take care, Anon.
Glückwünsche auf Ihrem neuen Buch! Umarmungen, Rose
ReplyDeleteHow's my German?????????
Sehr gut...vielen Dank. Das war nett von Dir. Anon
