Boston in the 1970s from Richard Cummings

Rose,

I came across a bunch of photos that I took in the late 1970s from the top of the old Custom's House building in downtown Boston, when I was working as a Criminal Investigator for the US Gov--allowed me to get to the top of the building, after they closed the observation point to the public.

I doubt if anyone from our gang ever made it to the top of the building to take in this view, so I am sending a view of Boston than one normally sees, especially now with all the re-construction that took place on the Causeway--is it still the Big Dig?

Cheers! Rich

  1. Rich,

Whenever I see pictures of Boston, I get so homesick.

The Big Dig is completed now. That certainly took many years!

I can't wait to go up to Boston for Mother's Day! I'm counting the days to see my children and also to attend the Lantern's Luncheon.

Any chance you can jump on a plane and join us??????? Dare to dream!

Hey, you need a book signing in the States too!

    Hugs,Rose

  2. Rich, love the pictures. They still call it the "Big Dig" or you could use a more common name, "The Money Pit" You will be quite surprised to see how much has changed. However some things stay the same. They were showing the Swan Boats getting ready for the season, and the runners readying for the Marathon. All signs of spring in Boston. They keep finding inovative ways to fit more people into Fenway. A new thing for Boston is to use Fenway Park for certain concerts.....imagine a concert on those holy grounds..............

  3. By the way, if anyone wants a digital copy of any of my photos that have been posted over the months, please just e-mail me and let me know what size as some internet providers have restrictions in the size of files. The only charge is a coffee frappe from Kelly's, if and when we ever meet. Cheers. Anon

  4. What? No fried clams or a delicious roast beef sandwich? I'm drooling right now...and all you would request is a "Coffee Frappe"!!!!!!!!!!!

You have been gone too long. Hey, I thought you said a while back that the year 2009 would be decision time as to if you would move back to the U.S.????

So, what's your decision? Are you going to be home bound soon I hope. What do you mean "if and when we meet"....you better be at the class reunion in 2012. I think that is when the next one is.

Heck, come on down now....come for our luncheon...........come see us!

    Hugs, Rose
