Say it isn't so,Ted! by Richard Cummings

Rose,

"I am shocked, shocked, I tell you"..."say it isn't so, Ted." The RED I repeat RED SOX played last night and wore GREEN!!! "Is this the revenge of Kermit the Frog?" he asked, while crying into his computer screen.

I guess I have been outside the USA too long...but do I want to go back to Green Sox? Rich

Hi Rich,

Relax my friend, I did my homework here from Florida and contacted my kids in Boston immediately after receiving this email from you. Well as it turns out it was done for Earth Day! Whew! But, I admit I think they took it a step too far by changing the colors even if it was done for one day! Yes, I try to go GREEN every chance I get to save the environment but let's not change the Red Sox's uniforms please! Ted would roll over in his grave!

Well, it brought them luck like Michelle said as they won the game!

My kids report that the Red Sox continue environmentally-sustainable practices at Fenway Park 2009 Earth Day presented by National Grid includes Uniforms featuring Red Sox' greening logo and CFL bulb recycling by Waste.

The first photo you sent and the second is one sent to me by my daugther, Michelle. What's with the logo on the sleeve.....did they also go green for St. Paddy's Day too?????????? Hey, Red Sox........leave the uniforms alone!

Hugs, Rose

  1. Rich,

I agree, the green uniforms for the Red Sox gave me a jolt!

I thought perhaps you were playing with my head and had fun with your color feature on your PhotoShop program.

Then I had to email my kids ASAP.

It was an extreme thing to do for Earth Day!

    Hugs, Rose

  2. Hmmm, that sure looks like support for the Celtics with a shamrock on the left sleeve. Anyway, thanks for clearing that up. Go Red Sox. Anon

  3. Rich,

Another email just came in from Michelle regarding the green uniformas yesterday:

P.S. I guess the reason for the green Red Sox uniforms is all marketing and sales. They are trying to get people to buy different colored jerseys and hats. I thought they might have done it for Earth Day. I think they were green last year during spring training. It is all for the money but they only do it sporadically.

Well, for whatever reason....Red Sox should be RED!

    Hugs, Rose

  4. Hi Rich, The sox wear the Green for a few special occassions,
    1. to support the Celtics (hence the shammrock)
    2. St Pats day
    3. Earth day
They have changed thier uniforms this year (I think they do most every year) From what I hear they are not too popular though.
The Celtics are in for a tough fight for playoffs so they need the support. Now the Bruins.....
Took four in Montreal...That is big for us 60's Bruins fans. Taking Montreal in Montreal.
It has been fantastic here in Boston the last few days, Everyone of our beloved teams are winning.....

  5. But Dora, you did not mention the most important Boston win so far this year--my alma mater Boston University winning the NCAA Hockey Crown! Go Terriers! Anon

  6. Rich, Oh yes, I forgot to say that the Redsox had few special events honoring the Celtics because of their win last year. As a matter of fact they had a picture of Kraft and Luchino (sp?) at the Celtics Game , they were sitting together. (of course front row)

  7. Rich, Sorry, I forgot all about that. I remember many years ago going to the hockey games at what I think was the Boston Arena, Was that where they use to play the Bean Pot in the "old days" That was quite a win.
