Great Send from Richard (Anon)

Hi Rose,

American TV and radio icon Art Linkletter died yesterday at age 97.  Do you know about his Radio Free Europe connection?

If not, I write about it, with a photo of him in Munich before the RFE microphone, at:
http://www.historytimes.com/fresh-perspectives-in-history/20th-century-history/cold-war/670-art-linkletter-radio-free-europe-and-the-crusade-for-freedom

If you go there, don't forget to give a star rating.

Take care, Rich

Message from Estella Follett Pohner via snail mail!

Photobucket
Dear Rose,

Just stopping by to say hello, as I don’t do the “Computer”. I read everything at work on the computer but they have recently come out and said “NO MORE” use of the computer for personal business.

I saw that Fred Ciampi was asking about me and our old neighborhood. I believe he lived on Rand Street. Boy, that was a long time ago. His get together sounds great. I was in Florida for a week, the first week of March. I visited my sisters in Ormond Beach and had a great time. My sister Priscilla, Class of 1958 will be married 50 years this May 21. (Today)

It is so nice of Fred and his wife to open their home up to our classmates. I will be there in spirit. It sounds like he has moved around and I believe he and his wife were thinking of moving back this way to Maine?

Rose, you do such a great job on our site. You are so very talented and we are lucky to have you!

Please say hi to Janice Scandone and Dora for me.

When are you coming to Massachusetts? We can plan a get together???

Requesting an RSVP!

Rose,

Can we request that any classmates that plan to attend contact you or me so we can get an idea of how many we can count on to be here in Tampa for the BBQ on June 5th.

I will send them my address and directions.

Fred

Fred,

To date, my only knowledge of who is attending is the following for sure:

Fred Ciampi
Jean Ciampi
Sal Carmosino
Carolyn Carmosino
Joyce Matthews Gilberti
Joyce's husband
Possibly "me" depending on my next medical report
Possible - Janice Scandone, if I attend as she won't drive that distance by herself

So folks, please respond as soon as possible to Fred and/or me so a count can be accounted for.  It's hard to put a party together if you don't know how many people are attending.  So, send a quick email to say yes or no.  Thanks!  Fred's email address is provided above in blue and mine as well.

We already heard from Peter Zaccone and Arthur Buonopane that they will not be able to make it. I, personally have not heard from anyone else have you?

Hugs, Rose

A Message from Joanne Struz McCarthy

Hi Rose,

What an exhilarating day we had on Saturday, May 15 for the Great Strides Walk at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield. The weather was beautiful and the turn-out was phenomenal. Our enthusiastic team, Team Star Striders, arrived eager to start the walk. I understand that around $60,000 was raised. My small, but loving team, raised more that $4000 of that. I am so proud of them. All of us who walked in memory of Ronan are so grateful to all of the caring people who so generously gave to support our cause. Every penny counts in the effort to find the cure for CF. We had a wonderful time and will definitely participate again next year.

It is important to raise awareness of this terrible disease. Would you please add a special “thank you” to my RHS classmates who donated on-line? I was deeply touched by their kindness and generosity.

Thanks again, for your support!

With love,

Joanne Strazzulla McCarthy and Team Star Striders

CRABBY OLD MAN

CRABBY OLD MAN
When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte, Nebraska, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value.

Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Missouri.

The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.

Crabby Old Man

What do you see nurses? . . . .. . What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . . . When you're looking at me?
A crabby old man . . . . . Not very wise,
Uncertain of habit . . . . . With faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food . . . . . And makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . . . . 'I do wish you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . . . . The things that you do.
And forever is losing . . . . . A sock or shoe?

Who, resisting or not . . . . . Lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding . . . . . The long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? . . . . . Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . . . You're not looking at me.

I'll tell you who I am. . . . . . As I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . As I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of Ten . . . . . With a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . . Who love one another.

A young boy of Sixteen . . . . With wings on his feet.
Dreaming that soon now . . . . . A lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . My heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows . . . . . That I promised to keep.

At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . . . And a secure happy home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . . With ties that should last.

At Forty, my young sons . . . . . Have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me . . . . . To see I don't mourn.
At Fifty, once more, babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . . . . My loved one and me.

Dark days are upon me . . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future . . . . . Shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . . . . . Young of their own.
And I think of the years . . . . . And the love that I've known.

I'm now an old man . . . . . And nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age . . . .. . Look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . . . . . Grace and vigor, depart.
There is now a stone . .. . . Where I once had a heart.

But inside this old carcass . . . . . A young guy still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . My battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . . I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . Life over again.

I think of the years, all too few . . . . . Gone too fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . . That nothing can last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . . Open and see.
Not a crabby old man . . . Look closer . . . See ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet
An older person who you might brush aside
Without looking at the young soul within.
We will all, one day, be there, too!

The best and most beautiful things of
This world can't be seen or touched.
They must be felt by the heart.

A message from Jack and Anne Anderson!

Hi Rose,

Thanks so much for Jack's birthday wishes. How do you keep up with all of this? Hope all is well with you and appreciate all you do.

Here is a picture of our 2 year old granddaughter Anabelle taken over the weekend. It should bring a smile.

This is Brilliant

A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite..

This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen...forward and backward.

This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled "u @ 50" by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

Happy Mother's Day!

Motherhood is a blessing that can only be experienced by a woman.

A mother is someone whose love never ends - it only increases and grows with time. She loves her children even before they are born and continues to do so all her life. Children often take their mother for granted, even then, the love of a mother never retreats.
