I just received news that Anthony “Bucka” Zizza passed away today after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Arrangements are incomplete at this time. The Boston Globe will have the arrangements in the Friday edition.
John Henry
RHS Class of 1962
So sad to hear this news.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to Bucker's family.
I will continue to search the Boston Globe regarding the arrangements to forward the information to the Lantern Gang.
Hugs, Rose
That is sad indeed. I remember him well, we were friends from elementary through high school Played sports together and just hung out with other neighborhood kids. One day in winter, he knocked on my door to go coasting on a hill covered with snow. I was not ready to join him, so he went on without me. When I got to the hill, I learned that he had broken his leg just a few minutes before I got there. I always wondered what would have happened if I had gone with him. The broken leg healed and slowed him down afterwards but not mentally and spiritually. I recall when he saved the life of a boy who had fallen through a frozen pond not far from his house. He jumped into the ice-covered water, swam to the boy and pulled him out. Bucker received a medal for his bravery. RIP Bucker. Rich C.
ReplyDeleteRich, Thank you for sharing that with us...There is so much more to people than what we see. I never knew about any of this. He was a very special person indeed.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear that Bucka (Bucker?) passed away. Peter Zaccone told me last night at dance class that he was in hospice care and thus "not long for this world" and I knew he was ailing, but still, to hear that it actually happened is too sad. He was a good kid and I'll remember him as he was when we were young together and will cherish the memory of yet another dear classmate.
ReplyDeleteMeri,
ReplyDeleteI thought his nickname was Bucka too but I just copied and pasted what John Henry sent to me. I will correct it.
Does anyone know how he got that nickname?
Hugs, Rose
Yes I do. Bucka had a younger brother who when he was a toddler couldnt say brother..so he said "Bucka".
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe how many classmates have not made it to age 65.
Sal
Sal,
ReplyDeleteSo, that explains why the yearbook says "brother" as his nickname!
I was so upset all day today after hearing that we lost him.
Hugs, Rose
