  1. I got one.  I remember when McDonalds across from the Revere airport (remember that??) was proud to announce that in the USA McDonalds sold burgers in the single digit millions.  Wow, we all said, millions.  Guess they now sell that many world-wide in a day.  But what I cannot remember if the airport was already closed, when McDonalds opened.  Cheers.  Rich

  2. Hi Rich,

Yes, I remember the day they erected the McDonald's huge yellow arches in our area.  I remember the old small airport too but I can't remember if the airport was still there then.  I don't think so...that is when they started building all the condos across the street and the strip mall that is there now.

I could be wrong...maybe someone else's memory is better than mine.

  3. Rose,
The old Revere Airport had an official name...it was Mueller Field and
believe it or not, many years before Logan got so big, it was actually
designated as an alternate landing field for flights that couldnt land
at Logan for one reason or another.  I never heard if it was actually
used for that purpose but it was listed as a secondary field.

People I worked with at American Airlines told me that, more than 40 years
ago.  Northgate Shopping Mall replaced the airport and one of the
first stores there, was Turnstyle...later became Zayre s.  Only a few years ago, there was still a bar or restaurant across from Northgate called Airport Bar or
something like that ......and this was more than 50 years later!
I can only remember seeing private planes there taking people up for
Sunday rides.  The hangar had a yellow and white checkmark design.
McDonald opened up across the street after the airport was gone.

  5. Memories about Revere Beach, especially in our high school years
brings to mind what a typical date was during those years.
Friday or Saturday night was for going down the beach and walking along
the Boulevard...going on some of the more challenging rides, like the
Viginia Reel, maybe the Dodgems...stopping at Bianchi s for pizza,
then some ice cream....and then ending the night on the king of
rides...the Cyclone!!  If we spent 10.00 the whole night, that was a lot.

The Cylcone cost 40 cents...25 cents for re rides, which of course we
all took. The only car to get was the first one.....to actually see the
tracks coming at you at a high speed, was a rush.....
Later if we were still hungry it was off to Kelleys for roast beef sandwiches
or fried clams.  Somehow the only song they seemed to play
at the Cylcone was the Watusi by the Orlons....in fact it didnt seem
right if that song wasnt playing.
I almost forgot the Double Ferris wheel which could be a bit scary on
    windy night.....
Revere Beach was king and we felt like it belonged to us being from
the city...everyone else was just visiting.

  6. Sal,

Wow, I remember everything you mentioned except the song they used to play at the Cyclone....."The Watusi" until you mentioned it!  Ah, the memories.

I too agree that it felt like Revere Beach was ours alone because we lived in Revere and everyone else were just visitors.  Well, sort of true!  LOL

It was an exciting time and I'm glad we all Revere Beach and I'm also glad we all went to school together!
