Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
It's a day of picnics, back yard BBQ's and patriotic parades, a night of concerts, fireworks, and family gatherings.
and a reason to fly the American flag.
2008 marks Boston Pops Spectacular 35th Anniversary! The event for the 4th will again be held on the Esplanade in Boston, along the Charles River, which includes the Edward A. Hatch Memorial Shell. I always loved the Hatch Shell.
I miss Boston.
A Happy Fourth to all my classmates.
ReplyDeleteWonderful graphics.

ReplyDeleteHappy 4th Rose and of course to all classmates. Hopefully, the weather will be okay for everyone to enjoy any outdoor plans they have made.
ReplyDeleteRose as I always say, it is great to read your journal and I promise when I get a chance to send you updated information.

The 1976 Esplanade Concert was incredible. Had to get there at 7AM just to get a place to put down a blanket for the concert that night. There are no 4th of July Celebration in Germany, except on whatever American military bases still exist and behind the security walls at the American Embassy in Berlin and different American consulates. Sometimes I miss the 4th of July, but
ReplyDeleteTwo roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;...
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
That poem from Robert Frost sums it up.
Have lotsa fun. Rich
I love the 4th of July! I always have a "gang" of friends and family over for a barbeque/pool party and then we go to see fireworks, either in Boston (which are the best!) or Nahant (good) but sometimes elsewhere. . . the point being that there are lots of choices in the area! It is just "what one does" on the evening of the 4th. . .
ReplyDeleteAnd to Richard in Germany, I also was at the Hatch Shell in Boston for the Bicentennial (l976, of course) and funny, I didn't see you! HAHA! As if you could find anyone during that wonderful event!
Happy Fourth to everyone!
I also miss Boston, Rose, I went to school there. I miss much of New England in fact.
