The Tall Ships are coming to Boston!

This came across my computer today and I copied and pasted it to pass it along to you.

Mark your calendar and select a day from July 8-12th! Boston has a wealth of maritime traditions both past and present which makes it the perfect host for the return of the world’s Tall Ship fleet as part of Sail Boston 2009. Oh my, it has been years since I've seen the Tall Ships.

How exciting, I remember the harbor tours and dinner cruises that get you up so close to these grand vessels.

Boston is an official Port of the Tall Ships. The five-day Sail Boston festival will begin with the Grand Parade of Sail into Boston Harbor. These Grand Vessels will dock in the Seaport District, Fan Pier Basin, Rowes Wharf and at the historic wharfs of the North End and Charlestown.

I have no idea what they charge now for these tours and dinner cruises but looks like a wonderful way to spend a day with your family and friends. But I did look up the address and phone number should anyone be interested in planning a nice day in Boston and bring your camera and send me some pictures of a delightful day! I'm sure it will be an amazing trip back to history for all you History Buffs out there!

I'm not a History Buff but since I was born in the North End of Boston and didn't move to Revere until I was in the third grade, I have always savored and drawn to everything the beautiful city has to offer. I still have family members that live in the North End.

Hey, Sal Carmosino.....you are a History Buff and may enjoy this wonderful event!

  1. Many, many years ago I went out into the harbor to view the tall ships. I cannot tell you how fantastic it was to cruise the harbor, sip on coctails and view the ships. What a day to remember.
We were not there the day that Old Iron Side escorted them into the harbor, that would have been fantastic. I think this may have been the first year that they did this. To be truthful I did not think that I would enjoy it as much as I did. It was Spectacular.

  2. When the Tall Ships came to
    Boston in 1997, Old Ironsides
actually sailed under its own sails, for a short period of time.
I was there on the hill side with
    a colonial artillery group.
When Old Ironsides sailed past us,
we fired several cannons in salute
and she fired back....It was to
    celebrate the 200th birthday of
Old Ironsides. The Tall ships followed her into the harbor.
    It was spectacular!
I also saw them during the Bi-Centennial in 1976 when they came for the first time.....
If anyonew has not seen them, make it a point to do so. You wont be
    disappointed.

  3. I agree with both Dora and Sal. . . I first saw the Tall Ships in '76 and thought they were fabulous. How lucky we were to be in Boston at that time and I do so look forward to seeing them again. And Sal, how awesome that you were able to participate in the re-enactment!

  4. When the tall ships came to Boston in 76' I was working in Boston for AIG and one of our reinsurors invited all the brokers to their
"Tall Ships" office party. It was quite a site to view them from their tall office building. It was quite a party too.
A couple of the travel agencies here have been advertising trips to Boston to view the tall ships.

    Wish I could be there.
